Once upon a time, in the seventy-first year of the last century, the relived two bureaucrats in Moldova: the First Secretary and the Second Secretary of the Communist party. The Second Secretary was more important than the First Secretary, since he had befriended the Tsar of the whole Soviet Union - Leonid Brezhnev. The Moldovan Republic is preparing for a visit from the great Brezhnev when Lautar, a poor musician, finally gets up the nerve to ask the local gypsy Baron for his daughters hand in marriage. To everyone surprise, the baron gives the couple his blessing, but on one condition: that Lautar acquire Brezhnev's personal limousine as a gift for the bride, and that Brezhnev come to the wedding

Beginning from a textual intervention, the film opens onto a reflection on what prolonged exposure to violence does to judgment, feeling, and moral resistance. Its brevity gives the work concentration. De Simone introduces friction into the game’s dramatic logic, shifting attention from action to aftertone, the emotional and ethical residue left once repetition has drained experience of its force. What happens when violence no longer registers as rupture but begins to organise the atmosphere of experience? Mirai (The Abyss) addresses that question with notable precision. Its mood is one of quiet corrosion. The work draws its force from restraint and from the sense that deeper forms of transformation often occur incrementally, through attrition. De Simone uses the game world to think through the dulling of response itself: the dangerous normalisation by which the intolerable becomes ordinary.
